My Theory: Lets think Abstractly. If I hold my phone over the ground, knowledge says it will fall if i let go, make a sound, and maybe break. In my mind, it will make chemicals in my eyes make it look like it was falling, chemicals in my ears say it makes a sound, chemicals in my hands telling me it's gone, and chemicals in my brain tell me it is broken now. What if none of it is real, and everything is just chemicals?! So, in order to save all of these chemicals, my brain makes more chemicals that tell me not to do any of those, therefor all of those chemicals hold fire.
